On player left out in the cold after signing day came and went was Ellsworth DE Joe Forgy (6-3.5, 240) who had an outstanding sophomore season and earned honorable mention All-American honors for his efforts. However things fell through with the schools who were looking closely at him and so he's decided to walk-on with Iowa in the hopes of earning a full scholarship after a redshirt season.
"After signing day
Iowa
got in touch with me," Forgy told JCFootball.com recently. "They said with all of the losses on the defensive line that I could have a chance to earn a scholarship.
"They didn't promise me anything and I know I have to work for it, but to have the chance to play for a Big 10 school and still be close to home, that really was what sold me on things."
In addition to the All-American honors, Forgy also received First Team All-Conference and All-Region honors after he posted 13 sacks and over 50 tackles for the Panthers.
"I feel very comfortable with my hand on the ground and they said they like me as a strongside defensive end," Forgy said. "
Mitch King
and
Matt Kroul
are great players and they are both going to be in the NFL Draft so it shows they run a good system to get guys ready for the next level."
Forgy has one class to complete, so he won't arrive in Iowa City until the summer, but when he steps on campus he will have three years to play two.
