Lamaison still hoping to leave this summer

One of the top JUCO signal-callers in the country last year was Mt. SAC's freshman phenom Nick Lamaison (6-1, 205) who helped lead the Mounties to the California State Championship game. He was a full-qualifier out of high school so he's eligible to leave at any time, but he may need to stay for another season just to solidify his status in the eyes of four-year schools...

"I've been a little frustrated with how recruiting has gone," Lamaison told JCFootball.com earlier this week. "A lot of schools didn't know I was eligible to leave, so I got my highlights out sorta late and that probably effected me not getting any offers.

"I got some interest from New Mexico State when coach (Dewayne) Walker called me during January, but they ended up signing the guy from Fullerton (Jeff Fleming) and then I got a call from Utah State and they ended up signing the guy from Cerritos (Jeff Fischer) so then everything started to dry up for me."

Even though recruiting has slowed down for him, Lamaison has plenty going for him.

As a freshman in 2008, Lamaison took over for the departed Kevin Craft and led the Mounties to an 11-2 record by completing over 66% of his passes for over 3,500 yards, 38 touchdowns and seven interceptions and his leadership skills are beyond question.

"I can run the spread or a pro-style attack," Lamaison said. "It doesn't really matter to me. I think I'm a lot like Todd Reesing from Kansas.

"I'm smart with the ball and I'm accurate, so I feel I caould play in almost any offense and be successful."

Lamaison is still hoping to sign with a school this spring or summer and if he does he will have four years to play three once he arrives. However, he is prepared to return to Mt. SAC for his sophomore season and then sign mid-year and arrive on campus in Jaunary, ready to compete for a starting job during spring practices a year from now.
