Recruiting picks up for Walker

Jones County DE Tyrunn Walker (6-5, 265) received his first offer this past week and has seen recruiting pick up quite a bit this month. He put in a call to JCFootball.com recently and updated us on things including which new schools are recruiting him so far...

"I just got an offer from Northwestern State," Walker told JCFootball.com. "They are a D-1AA school, but they are a great program and they are the first to offer which feels good."

Early on Mississippi State, Louisville, Memphis, Tulsa and Houston were the schools recruiting the talented defensive line prospect, but recently a new SEC program has begun to pick up the pace.

"Tennessee just started calling me," Walker said. "They were sending letters and stuff before, but now they have sorta picked things up.

"I'm looking for a school with tradition and honestly it will be the program as a whole -- how many guys graduate and go on will be a big thing too."

As a freshman, Walker contributed 16 tackles as a reserve on a team that went 7-2 and finished the year ranked No. 14 in the NJCAA.

"I think I'm a balanced defensive end, because I can play the run or rush the quarterback well, but because of my long arms I think I'm a better pass-rusher," Walker said. "I'm quick off the ball and I will show it all this season."

We'll continue to keep track of his progress.

Walker is on pace to graduate in December and wherever he ends up he'll have three years to play two.
