Sapolu extends family legacy at Hawaii

Orange Coast College is loaded along the offensive line this year and one of their top prospects, G/C London Sapolu (6-1, 295), recently made a commitment to the school where his dad played. JCFootball.com caught up with the massive offensive lineman and he talked about his commitment and what it was about Hawaii that made him decide to become a Warrior...
"I committed to
Hawaii
," a proud Sapolu told JCFootball.com. "I was getting some interest from
Tennessee
and
UCLA
and a couple of other schools, but Hawaii was the school that offered me and after I talked with my dad (Jesse) he said it was a great situation for me and I should take it."
Sapolu's father was a standout with Hawaii back in the late 70's and early 80's and went on to win four Super Bowl rings with the
San Francisco 49ers
and two Pro Bowl selections. London said that was one of the reasons he chose to commit to them.
"I had a couple of brothers go their own way, so I thought it would be good for one of us to continue the tradition (of a Sapolu playing football with the Warriors)," Sapolu said. "The coaches there are great and I think I will really enjoy myself there," said the
junior college football
standout for '09.
"I'm still going to listen to other schools, so if a school wants to offer me I will look at them, but Hawaii will still be my favorite no matter what."
Sapolu originally started his college career at OCC by playing defensive tackle in 2007, but was switched to the offensive side of the ball and redshirted in 2008.
"They said I was a better fit on this side and I feel real comfortable there now," Sapolu said. "I'm rotating right now at guard and center and there is where Hawaii likes me too.
"I love playing guard because it lets you get out and pull and get different angles on guys where at center you always have someone over you. I like both, but guard is where I'd like to play."
Sapolu will finish up his two year degree in December and he'll have two years to play two after the 2009 season.
