Hopkins runs amuck for Fort Scott

He might not be the biggest JUCO back out there, but Fort Scott RB Jasmin Hopkins (5-7, 175) is a player who packs a lot into a small package. The talented runner had an outstanding freshman season in 2008 and he hopes his performance last year and this coming fall will result in some D-1 offers...

Jasmin prepped at East Gaston High School in North Carolina and was unable to qualify, so he headed to a prep school and then got in touch with the coaches at Fort Scott and saw they had a plan to get him moved on to the next level.

"Their plan was great and I could see where they were headed," Hopkins told JCFootball.com recently. "I'm real happy here, especially with how things have gone."

As a freshman in 2008, Hopkins slashed and cut his way to 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns while helping lead the Greyhounds to a Heart of Texas (H.O.T) Bowl win.

"I'm more of a scatback because of my size and my speed (4.4), but I can run in any offense and do whatever a team needs me to do," Hopkins said. "I can run inside with power because I'm compact, but I have the quickness and vision and speed to get outside and run away from people too."

On the recruiting front, Hopkins hasn't received any offers yet, but schools have shown interest in him.

"I'm interested in Auburn, East Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Southern Miss, South Florida and LSU right now," Hopkins said. "I'm open to everyone and I hope to get some offers soon and I'm getting my tape out to schools right now."

Hopkins will be able to sign with a school in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
