Pearl River CC headed to Southern Miss

The 6' 4", 310 pound center for Pearl River CC is going to walk on at Southern Miss in January. To learn more about it, read below.

"Andrew has decided to walk on at Southern Miss in January, and in the offseason, he has a good chance to earn a scholarship, added Ed Phillips. "he is going to have to earn his way with a chip on his shoulder."

The former North Forest standout enrolled at Pearl River CC this fall with hopes of betting his game and getting his name more out there.

"He has a really good year. He has graded out really high and reunited with QB Emile Jones, who he played with at North Forest. They ended up 6-3 and were #3 in the nation at one point," stated Andrew's father.

Phillips decided to leave Pearl River CC after a semester to get an early jump at D1 ball.

"He has always been more of a USM fan and has followed them more than any other team in the state and it is right down here in Hattiesburg. He is just excited about the opportunity to get started and play center for Southern Miss.

"I qualified coming out of high school, academically, but I did not have the options I wanted. I had always wanted to play for Southern Mississippi, and now I have that option, so I am going to live out my dream. Hopefully I can earn that scholarship when I get to USM and become a big part of their team," added Andrew Phillips.
