Colorado hauls in Saddleback OL

Saddleback OL Eric Richter commits to Colorado

Players who can sign starting Wednesday have been flooding in with commitments and one that had flown a little under the radar this fall was Saddleback OL Eric Richter (6-4, 315), but he made a visit this past weekend and decided he wanted to become a Buffalo before he left Boulder.

"I committed to Colorado on my visit there this past weekend," Richter told JCFootball.com Tuesday. "The coaches were all really happy and excited that I committed. They said they haven't had a physical lineman like me in their lineup the past few years and they liked how violent my hands were and how I moved.

"This year I started every game at right guard and last year I started six games at left guard and rotated the rest of the games. I also backed up some at center this year so I feel like I could play almost anywhere on the inside if they needed me to."

Richter chose the Buffs over offers from Arkansas State and New Hampshire and heavy interest from schools like San Diego State, Tennessee and Auburn.

"It was a great fit for me and I really enjoyed the coaches and the players a lot," Richter said. "I'm excited to get signed (Wednesday) and get up there in January because I have a lot of work to do and I want to compete for that starting spot."

Richter prepped at Capistrano High School in California, but received little in the way of attention from D-1 schools. He was all set to walk-on at the University of San Diego, but thought he had a chance to earn a full-ride if he attended a good junior college.

"First off, Saddleback was really close to home for me," Richter said. "That was a big factor, but they also have a great rep as being a big time program and they get guys moved on to the next level so that was the next thing for me."

Richter is naturally strong, possessing a 530-pound max on his bench press, a 580-pound max on his squat and he's ultra-athletic, posting a 5.09 forty time this past spring.

He'll sign on December 16th and he'll have three years to play two once he arrives in Boulder.
