Feather River's Outten talks early recruiting
"I heard from a couple of coaches that it was a good program out here," Outten told JCFootball.com. "Then I talked with a coach out here and he really got my attention. They have a plan here and they really help you get ready for the next step."
As a freshman last fall, Outten finished the season with 85 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss and two sacks and this year he's hoping to eclipse the century-mark.
"I'm probably best at stopping the run, but I can drop into coverage well too," Outten said. "I'm athletic and I can make plays sideline-to-sideline
"This year I'm just working on my quickness and my keys and making sure I make all the plays I can to help our defense."
Recruiting is just in its infancy for Outten, but schools from across the country have noted what he can do and told him they will be giving him a long look this spring.
"Arizona, Kansas State, Auburn, USC and Washington State are the ones looking at me," Outten said. "The coaches from Kansas State, Washington State and Arizona have all talked to me and my coaches have talked to Auburn and USC about me.
"I don't have any offers yet, but they keep telling me that they like me a lot and just want to evaluate me more, plus they want to check out my transcripts and stuff like that."
Outten is on pace to finish up the requirements for his AA degree in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
