College of Sequoias defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson took an official visit to USC last week for…
13 offers for Sequoias' Richardson
Last season, playing in the 4-3 for the Giants, Richardson led the way with 65 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, three sacks, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick.
"My coaches use me at end because of my size and my speed," Richardson, who ran a 4.67 forty this spring, said. "A lot of the coaches recruiting me have said that I can play with a 3-4 end or a 4-3 end on the strongside and that's where I'd like to stay.
"I can play inside and do well, but I like being out on the edge because you have less double-teams and it allows you just to go head-up on a guy and if you beat him, you can get to the quarterback."
Speaking of the schools recruiting him, Richardson maintains he's still committed to Missouri, but that he's willing to listen to schools who are interested and at this point, 12 more have already shown how interested they are.
"I have my offer from Missouri still and I'm committed to them for now," Richardson said. "I have offers from Alabama, Tennessee, Cal, USC, Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, Arkansas and Auburn that I know of and I have about three or four more that I can't think of off the top of my head.
"USC is the main school I've been talking with recently, and Cal and Arizona State and Oregon are next. They all want me to visit this fall, but I don't think that will happen until after the season is over."
Richardson said he'll be looking for several things when he goes to make his final decision on a school, but that won't happen for some time.
"I've been told I have NFL-potential, so a school that can get me ready for a pro career is very important," Richardson said. "I also want to make sure I like the staff and players and the environment that they provide and I want to find a system that fits me."
Richardson is on pace to finish his AA in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
