I'm one of the organizers of the "Capital Clash", a 7-man football tournament to be held in Canberra, Australia over the weekend of 8-9th June 2013. The tournament will consist of 12 teams made of a diverse range of athletes, aged from 17+ from across Australia, competing against each other for a significant cash prize pool.
One thing that we feel that we miss out on here is opportunities for Australian athletes to be looked at and considered for development in the much more football centric environment of American high-schools and Junior Colleges. The recent example of Jesse Williams shows that Australia does have athletes with a lot of potential. They only need to be discovered. Our aim is to promote and expand the sport within Australia, as well as assisting Australian athletes connect with American high-school and college athletic programs with the hope that some real Australian talent is realised, and some more Jesse Williams' unleashed on the Gridiron scene in America.
We are seeking expressions of interest from High-School and Junior College or College head coaches or athletic directors who would be interested in taking an all-expenses paid trip (flights, accommodation and a modest stipend to cover meals and incidental expenses) to attend our tournament for the purposes of scouting athletes for further development or possible inclusion in your program on a normal intake or scholarship basis. There will be no obligations placed on the attending scout, or expectations in regards to results.
As we're still a developing sport in Australia, and this tournament itself is a recent development, we can only offer 1 place at this time. We hope to be able to expand this further in the future, and to make the tournament (and the scouting opportunity) a regular fixture in the Australian Gridiron Calendar.
If you would be interested in taking on this opportunity, please email me on firstname.lastname@example.org with some details describing the institution you represent and what opportunities might exist there for suitable Australian athletes.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any other questions regarding the opportunity.
